That's no way to think of it. Getting an interview is the big goal and getting a job after you've submitted your resume is the next step. You've got to focus on your strengths and weaknesses so that your resume will stand out in the pile.What employers really want is a candidate who has the traits they are looking for in a candidate. When you know these traits and can put them to use, then you can focus on building your skills and achievements, your credibility, and your personality.You must be able to explain your resume in the simplest terms possible. Writing is a creative art form. It can be easy to just talk your wa y through the resume section or you can get creative and draw attention to your skills.The first step in the resume part is to write about your qualifications. Write as simply as possible but use language that makes sense. To state the obvious, write what you know best and be concise. If you know an incredible amount about geology, write that information as clearly as you can on your resume.Next, list those qualities you know of and those you don't. What are the best qualities you have? What are the worst? You may also want to go over some of your strengths and weaknesses with your supervisor or manager and try to use that to strengthen your resume.Now that you've listed your strengths and weaknesses, you can begin to build on those. Start by talking about the qualities you know of that are positive for you. For example, you know that you're a great writer. You'll state these qualities on your resume as they relate to your previous job. Then move on to those you don't know too much about and give details about them.Another way to list positive qualities for you is to list the duties that you know you're good at and also those you're not so sure about. On the resume, you'll identify those skills and abilities you already possess that are good in this position. You should then briefly cover what you haven't been able to do well or even mention your weaknesses that are positively a good match for the abilities you know you have.Use a summary section and a thank you section. You want to let the reader know that you're enthusiastic about this opportunity and that you're ready to make a positive impression on the interviewer. Use the resume to share your enthusiasm with the interviewer.When you cover your weaknesses, list those that are more negatives rather than positives. Instead of listing the strengths that you have, tell the story of those that you aren't so good at. These can include things like taking too long to get things done or not being punctual.Include your good skills in your cover letter. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to write a compelling resume. You don't need to be an expert in any field to make an impact on the employer. What you do need to know is to be sure you're doing everything you can to shine and to ensure that your skills and accomplishments will stand out to the employer.
